Glacier National Park
The East Side of Glacier National Park - The Halfway Hotel is ideally located half way between East Glacier and West Glacier entrances to GNP. This gives excellent access to the high plains, mountains and lakes inside the park, and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. There are historic lodges, waterfalls, and excellent hiking throughout the east side of the park. Two Medicine, St. Mary, Many Glacier areas, as well as Canada’s Waterton National Park are all within a day trip of Essex.
West Side of Glacier National Park – The western entry to Glacier National Park is about 20 miles west of Essex. You will find all sorts of tourist activities around the West Glacier Region. Be sure to stop in the historic Apgar Village, on beautiful Lake MacDonald. The Avalanche Lake trailhead is another top destination for hikers and sight seers. The spectacular Going-To-The- Sun highway traverses from West Glacier to St. Mary and is an ideal day long activity from Essex, all in one loop, and either direction. There are helicopter tours, rafting trips, horseback riding outfitters, and boating activities located around this part of the park. There are also zip line tours, an aerial park, a human maze and other family related activities located in and around West Glacier.
