The Halfway Hotel is at the center of over a million acres of wilderness. Whether you are looking for a leisurely nature walk, a hike into the Great Bear Wilderness area, or a full traverse of Glacier National Park, you can find the trailhead in Essex. Within a half day’s hike of the Hotel, sits Marion Lake, Alameda Lake, and Dickey Lake. There are also numerous mountain peaks, waterfalls, and old growth forests to explore and conquer.
The Walton Ranger Station is the southern entry to Glacier Park, and is within a mile of The Halfway Hotel. There you will find a trailhead that either meanders its way down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, or up the Ole Creek drainage, leading to the continental divide, a backcountry campground, as well as other trails that lead deeper into Glacier’s interior.
