The Middle Fork corridor and the Greater Glacier ecosystem is home to some of the largest populations of grizzly bears in the lower 48 states. You will also find wolf packs, elk and moose, as well as mountain goats and mountain sheep. The Goat Lick Overlook is about 3 miles east Essex, along U.S. Highway 2. This natural mineral deposit is frequented by all kinds of wildlife, but you are most likely to see mountain goats from the overlook. The goats can be viewed on most days year round, but spring, summer and fall are the best seasons.
